Oracle Update: From Oracle Openworld London 2020 and Beyond

Alastair Newson & Adam Binding, Oracle

Abstract

This session is an open session like the Open World stand where we can talk about any of the recent Oracle updates. As a database centric person I can talk in more detail about the database. An important development in the Oracle database world is the autonomous database; a worry for some administrators, a blessed relief for others. This was a hot topic at Open World this year. Over 2 days I barely had a break with back to back conversations, the majority about the autonomous database or analytics. Time is limited to 30mins, but we can also take a quick look at the autonomous database if that's of interest.

Speaker Biography

Most of my career has been spend using the Oracle database. 10 year developing applications, 14 years in Oracle Consulting, and the last 10 in Oracle pre-sales. From the beginning I've had an interest in making software work well which demands understanding the underlying platform. Even after all the years I'm still finding out new things in the technology. The past 10 years have been focused around the Exadata and database, and over the last 5 much more with the cloud and more recently data science. That has taken me from high volume telecom environments to large data science installations, to 1 OCPU autonomus databases - always interesting. I'd love to learn more form what you've been doing.
