SQLcl - SQL*Plus with Benefits, plus Calling PLSQL from SQL since 12c

Erik van Roon, EvROCS

This presentation will deal with two subjects.
First there will be an introduction to SQLcl.
SQLcl is the new command line tool for doing SQL.
It does everything SQL*Plus does, and lots more.
New features constantly get added, which alone is more than we were able to say about sql*plus for a long time
This session will introduce SQLcl and show its most important features to those that are new to it.

Second we'll have a look at the improvements since Oracle database 12c with respect to calling user defined functions from sql.
Now the WITH clause can include definitions of PL/SQL-functions for use inside your query, and then there is the option to use the udf pragma to compile functions for use in SQL.
Both features will be shown, including some pitfalls and the difference in performance, compared to each other and to using conventional function calls.
