New year, new website, let us know your thoughts.
First of all, I want to say how pleased I was to see so many of you in Liverpool last December. I spent a lot of time trying to talk with as many of you as I could. The conference had a really positive feeling about it and I had many positive comments from people, both about the conference itself and the things we are changing.
UKOUG has consulted with many of our members & partners on what events they prefer. We found that within the business Applications community there was a desire to have more events focused on specific areas throughout the year and that the Technology community still felt that the December conference suited them. Thus in 2019 we will try a significant change and change to match this. One aspect of this is that we will have more multi-stream events. The regional conferences in in Scotland and Ireland are very popular and will continue with both Business Applications and tech content, and we will have several Business Applications events through the year, focused on specific areas. The December UK conference will focus on Tech.
In mid-December we launched our new website and services. This is a significant change for us, we have been somewhat hamstrung by the old software and website we have been using for too many years - it not only felt old but it did not support the internal functions of the UKOUG and changing anything was difficult and expensive.
I would encourage you all to try the new website and keep an eye out for further communications about aspects of it and how we as a community can make more use of modern technology to communicate between us and host the events we as members want.
The web site will continue to develop and evolve. There will also be (and have been) some oddities due to how we have to extract information on memberships, events, groups, and fees from the old system and put it in the new system. We are also ensuring we are fully GDPR compliant as we do this.
If you have any issues or problems with the new website please let us know, either by contacting the office directly or via the online chat system. I've used the online chat myself to get help on some aspects of the new system.
Let us know your thoughts
With so many things changing, we know that we will get some things right and some things wrong. Please let us know about both! This is your user group and we can only improve what we know we need to improve, and we can only deliver the things you like if you let us know you like them. If there is something we are not yet doing (or even used to do) that you would like us to look at doing, please ask.
